The Harold Varmus, MD, Endowed Fund for Global Scholars supports future leaders who build bridges between countries and promote intercultural understanding. The fund supports graduate students and medical students and is administered through the International Students & Scholars Office (graduate students) and the Inquiry Funding Office (medical students).
Eligibility:
Graduate division PhD students
Minimum duration: 4 weeks
In addition to this application, applicants must also follow instructions for travel approval on the UCSF Travel Guidance page.
Award:
Up to $5,000 for travel, living, and research expenses
Please note: funds for this award cannot be disbursed until after July 1, 2025.
Instructions:
- UCSF Email Only: Use your UCSF email as the Primary Email address. Applications are tracked via your UCSF email address. You can only submit one application per email address per funding cycle.
- Notify your Graduate Advisor of their endorsement requirements: The Graduate Advisor (PI) Letter of Support is due on the same date as this general application and should be emailed to travis.pentz@ucsf.edu. It is your responsibility to share the instructions for this letter with your advisor, and to ensure they submit their letter on time.
- Confirmation of completion is your responsibility: Please be aware that we cannot verify your Graduate Advisor's submission of their Letter of Support. Please confirm these submissions directly with your mentor.
